The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce Abby Betker of the Capilano University Blues as the 2026 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year.
A fourth-year outside hitter from Capilano University, Betker delivered a remarkable season in the PACWEST conference, leading the league with 3.81 kills per set while finishing second with 4.51 total points per set. She also ranked seventh in the conference with 0.42 blocks per set, while recording a team-high 282 kills and an impressive .349 hitting percentage.
Betker’s dominant play helped lead the Blues to a 19-1 record and a first-place finish in the PACWEST regular season, setting a new program record for wins in a season and marking 13 consecutive victories to begin the 2025-26 campaign.
“Abby Betker put together an exceptional season and proved herself to be one of the most complete players in the country,” said CCAA Women’s Volleyball Convenor Beth Clark. “Her ability to impact the match in multiple ways, offensively, defensively, and as a leader, helped drive Capilano’s success this season. Abby’s consistency and commitment to excellence make her a very deserving recipient of the CCAA Player of the Year honour.”
Her outstanding performance earned her numerous honours this season, including PACWEST Player of the Year, PACWEST First-Team All-Star, PACWEST Top Outside Hitter, and CCAA All-Canadian recognition. Betker was also named CCAA Athlete of the Week in November and was selected as a PACWEST Tournament All-Star in 2025.
Beyond her on-court success, Betker has excelled academically and in the community. She was named a 2024-25 CCAA Academic All-Canadian after posting a 3.93 grade-point average, and she gives back to the sport as a coach with the Powerwest Volleyball Club U15 girls team.
“In addition to being a key player on our team, Abby has brought something just as important in her team-first attitude,” said Capilano head coach Sue Soolsma. “She knows what she means to our team, but she is just as happy to see her teammates excel. Abby has improved the areas of her game that weren’t strong last year, becoming a reliable passer and back-row player.”
Betker’s dedication, leadership, and elite performance throughout the season have made her one of the top student-athletes in Canadian collegiate volleyball and a deserving recipient of the 2026 CCAA Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year Award.
