The defending CCAA champion Mariners open Week 2 the PACWEST season back at home after a home-and-home weekend with the Camosun Chargers last week in which they finished with two wins. This week they face the Blues who are winless after the first weekend.
The Mariners used last season’s Player of the Year Jane Lytvynenko to perfection as she finished the opening weekend with 30 kills and 36 total offensive points. Newcomer Cassidy Kitchen added 12 kills while returning starting setter Linnea Brickwood collected six aces.
On the other hand, the Blues lost both matches to the visiting Douglas Royals in four sets last weekend and will look to turn things around against the Mariners. Grace Brisebois led the Blues last weekend with 24 kills and Nnya Mbaoma chipped in with 22.

Last weekend the Avalanche swept the visiting CBC Bearcats losing just one set over the course of two matches. Rose Howard collected 18 kills in the sweep and Rylee Bell had 17. Third year outside hitter Hilary Lueken was named the Athlete of the Week playing both sides of the ball very well.
Meanwhile the Royals are on the road for the second straight weekend after sweeping the Capilano Blues last weekend with a pair of four set victories. They had a balanced attack with Lauren Bowman and Maya Brodie-Rafuse leading the way with 19 kills each. Payton Henderson was also solid with 16 kills.

A pair of teams looking for their first win will match-up on Friday night in Abbotsford when the Bearcats welcome the Chargers. The last time the Chargers were on this floor they left with a PACWEST bronze medal around their necks. They lost both matches last weekend to the VIU Mariners and are looking to get into the win column for the first time. Erica Bolink led the PACWEST last weekend with a total of 32 kills and Jasanna Kunz added 23 in the set back.
The Bearcats host their home opener after traveling to Cranbrook last weekend. All-Star Janae Bruinsma led the offensive attack with 18 kills. They will no doubt have very good support from the CBC student body as they welcome back the Bearcats for the first time this season.
