Home Cookin' Good For Kamerman
Attacking midfielder Jada Kamerman has been a Mariners sparkplug
The defending PACWEST champion VIU Mariners have exploded out of the gate to kick off the new women’s soccer season and have shown a complete team effort.
They have tallied 14 goals in their four games and have allowed only three as they sit atop the PACWEST standings and have been ranked at #1 in the country by the CCAA.
One of the standouts this season has been second year, Nanaimo native Jada Kamerman. She has two goals and has assisted on two others so far this season and has had five shots on net emerging as an offensive threat in the early going.
The Mariners are lucky to have Kamerman in the lineup who is returning to soccer post injury and obviously has made an immediate impact after getting a taste of soccer south of the border.
Following her senior season at Lower Island Soccer and Wave BCSPL she was named the championship tournament MVP and received scholarship opportunities from all over Canada and the United States. She decided to attend Division 1 Tarleton State University in Texas, part of the Western Athletic Conference. In her freshman year in 2023 she played in 18 games with six starts.
She decided to come home for the 2025-2026 school year and suit up for the Mariners to try and help her hometown team to another PACWEST gold medal while making a full recovery. There’s nothing like being at home while recovering from an injury.
She first got into soccer at the tender age of 4 but it wasn’t until age 8 when she started to take soccer seriously. That said, she was allowed to play whatever she wanted growing up. She played basketball all through middle school and high school and competed in track and field and qualified for provincials’ multiple times running cross country, which clearly helps with endurance on the soccer pitch.
The Nanaimo Christian grad has a good idea of why her Mariners are off to such a hot start this season, “I think it’s because of all the hard work we put in during preseason and how focused everyone is on the team goals. We have been very disciplined defensively, creating chances up front and most importantly we are playing for each other. The commitment is showing in our results.”
Kamerman and the Mariners (4-0) are back on the pitch this weekend when they host the Capilano Blues on Saturday and Sunday. They visited the Blues last weekend, scoring four first-half goals en route to a 5-2 win. Kamerman assisted on two of those first half goals, then scored her second goal of the campaign in the 51st minute. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 12:30pm at Harewood Centennial Park.
