Eagles Peck Royals
The Douglas Royals come up short in their bronzed medal quarterfinal
The PACWEST wildcard Douglas Royals started slowly on the offensive side on Thursday afternoon and couldn’t fully recover losing 63-52 in the CCAA bronze medal quarterfinal to The King’s Eagles of the ACAC.
The Royals were outscored 25-10 in the first quarter and couldn’t get into a rhythm through the first 10 minutes. They did bounce back nicely in the second quarter, flipping the tables on the Eagles outscoring them 21-7 but still trailed them by a point at halftime.
Coming out of the half, the Eagles again took flight going on a 15-5 run and never looked back en route to their first win of the tournament despite shooting 30%.
Offensively the Royals found it difficult to score in the first and third quarters and finished the game shooting 31% from the field. With Mackenzie Dalphond in foul trouble early on, Lauren Clements took over and was the only Royal able to find the bottom of the basket. She finished with a game high 23 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals and was named the Player of the Game.
Following the setback the Royals fall to 0-2 at the national championship and will play in Friday’s Placement Match at 11:00am PST against the ACAA champion St. Thomas Tommies who are also looking for their first win.
