Avalanche Capture Silver
For the first time in school history the COTR Avalanche take home a national silver medal
The PACWEST champion COTR Avalanche made school history on Saturday night winning a CCAA national silver medal, the program’s best finish to date.
They would meet the Red Deer Kings in the national championship match in Edmonton and fought tooth and nail against the defending champions. The Kings would take the first match 25-20 to strike first.
In the second the teams traded blows before the Kings earned another 25-20 to put themselves in the driver’s seat in the match. With momentum on their side the Kings continued to pour it on and took the third set 25-23 to capture their second straight gold medal.
On the offensive side for the Avalanche Dylan Annala led his team with 11 kills and in his final collegiate match, Diego Policarpo added 10. Setter Boston Thiessen ran another balanced offence with 25 assists and Reece Clarke also playing in his final collegiate match ended with six digs.
Following the match the national championship All-Stars were announced and Annala, Policarpo and Clarke were each honoured.
