Mariners Season Concludes
The VIU Mariners finish the national championship in fourth place
The PACWEST wildcard VIU Mariners ended the CCAA national championship tournament with a fourth-place finish as their season concluded on Saturday.
In the bronze medal match the Quebec champion the Titans de Limoilou took the first two sets 25-23 and 27-25 to put the Mariners behind the eight ball. They did show life in the third set and battled back to win 25-23 to cut the lead in half.
That momentum, however, didn’t last long as the Titans took the fourth set 25-18 to win the bronze medal and send the Mariners home empty-handed. In his final collegiate match Rylan Van Kooten led his club with 12 kills while Phillip Treitel and Kieran Paauwe each added 11 in the setback. Setter Owen Dyck was outstanding, named Player of the Match with 36 assists, 12 digs and six kills as he finished his collegiate career.
Following the tournament, Treitel and Dyck were named Second Team All-Stars.
