Blues Open With Blue Devils
The Capilano Blues meet the UKC Blue Devils at the CCAA nationals
Capilano Blues vs. UKC Blue Devils – Wednesday November 5, 2:30pm PST
A pair of Conference champions will duke it out in Montreal on Wednesday afternoon to open the CCAA national championship tournament when the PACWEST champion Blues meet the ACAA champion Blue Devils.
Capilano will look to continue their Cinderella story after upsetting the Douglas Royals and Langara Falcons at the Conference championship to earn a berth at the nationals. They won just three games during the regular season and won two in the postseason. Sebastian Cirotto will need a big game, but the Blues also need to find secondary scoring. Keeper Graydon Sherle has been outstanding in the playoffs and needs to be sharp against the undefeated Blue Devils.
The ACAA champs stream rolled through the regular season finishing 11-0-1. Their most challenging game came in the Conference gold where they needed double extra time to earn a 2-1 victory to capture the title and a berth to nationals. In 12 games in the regular season, they scored an eye-popping 40 goals led by All-Canadian Luke Kotaska and his seven. They had balanced scoring with 14 players finding the scoresheet so the Blues backline will be tested and cannot focus on just one player.
The Blue Devils head coach Jamie McGinnis was named the CCAA Coach of the Year.
The winner advances to the national semifinals.
