Men’s Soccer Saturday Results
Capilano Blues 2 – VIU Mariners 2
The Blues carried a two-goal advantage heading into the late stages of the second half, however a huge Mariners push with 10 minutes to go and the game finishes in a 2-2 tie.
The only goal of the first half came in the 39th minute on a gorgeous free kick from Tommy Millar in the left corner. He was able to bend the shot around the wall of two Mariners defenders and sneak it past the keeper to give the home side the lead.
The Blues added to their advantage in the 54th minute when Sebastian Cirotto scored his third of the season with a shot from the edge of the crease. The ball looked like it changed directions after Cirotto somehow got a shot off that went through the legs of a defender and into the net for the goal.
It was in the 80th minute when the Mariners finally got on the board and cut the lead in half. After a shot from the corner, the Blues failed to clear it and Brian Bland took advantage with a blistering shot from the top of the crease into the back of the net.
In the 85th minute the Mariners struck again. After being awarded a free kick, the ball was sent into the crease on a high looping shot when Declan Brown tapped it across the goal line for Maxwell Dadzie sliding across to redirect it home to tie it.
It’s the first final that ends in a tie this season.
Langara Falcons 1 – Douglas Royals 0
These two teams showed just how even they are on Saturday with a very entertaining game that went back and forth.
The lone goal of the game came in extra time in the first half when the Falcons were awarded a free kick just outside the crease. David Rodriguez-Zegarra blasted shot that ricocheted off the wall right to Dante Tallarico who simply tapped in the deflection for this first goal of the campaign.
Both teams had plenty of chances in the game, but as it turns out the Tallarico goal was the only one needed in the contest as the Falcons hung on for their second win of the season. Keeper Ziyan Clark-Ismail was tested and answered the bell several times to earn the clean sheet.
