The Camosun Chargers are CCAA bronze medalists
For the first time in school history, the Camosun Chargers are CCAA bronze medalists after a thrilling 48-44 victory over the Mohawk Mountaineers on Saturday.
The best quarter of the game was easily the fourth as both teams, playing in their fourth game in four days, struggled offensively and went into the halftime break with a 17-16 score.
In that final frame the Chargers outscored the Mountaineers 19-12 led by the PACWEST Player of the Year David Finch who scored both inside and outside, then played lock down defence helping his club to the victory. He finished the game with 16 points and nine rebounds and was named the Player of the Game. Owen Jones added 10 points, none bigger than two free-throws with two seconds left to make it a two-score game, one the Mountaineers could not overcome.
The Chargers defence was outstanding holding the Mountaineers to 23% shooting and forced 13 turnovers.
It’s a long time coming, but the Chargers have finally won a national medal at the CCAA men’s basketball championship.
