Grad Class: CBC Bearcats
All four Bearcat teams have big sneakers to fill heading into next year
The CBC Bearcats athletic program are searching for some new faces for each of their four sports following the graduation of several student athletes.
They will have two new head coaches in the mix as well as they hunt for a women’s volleyball coach and someone to lead their men’s basketball program. As a matter of fact, it’s the men’s basketball team that will have the most holes to fill with seven players not returning.
There is definitely plenty of excitement around the women’s basketball program with a berth already clinched in the CCAA national championship tournament as the hosts of the big dance in March of 2027.
The graduating players from each of the Bearcats teams:
Women’s Basketball
Kagari Tomita is a monumental departure as the Bearcats best player last season. She was a major part of the gold medal winning team two years ago and will leave behind a big hole in scoring production heading into next season.
Julie Dueck was incredible for the Bearcats either in a starting role or coming off the bench. She is a veteran player who will be missed not only on the floor, but in the locker room as well.
AJ Sobotta was an integral part of the Bearcats while in the lineup. Her versatility showed each night and was a threat from the outside.
Jenae Rhoades primarily came off the bench for the Bearcats during her time at CBC. She accepted her role and gave the coaching staff quality minutes playing in the paint and a physical style that the Bearcats are known for.
Katelyn Mallette returned for her final year of eligibility after leaving Capilano several years ago. She was dominate during the PACWEST championship tournament playing a massive role in their quarterfinal victory and added some tough points in the bronze medal game.
Men’s Basketball
Dane-Dre Anglin had his best collegiate season last year leading the PACWEST in scoring and was the top threat for his club. He led the Bearcats into the postseason this year showing off his talented play.
D’Andre Palmer Ormsby returned the Bearcats after the season had already started and was an immediate injection of offence. He and Anglin became an impressive 1-2 punch that opposing defences needed to scheme for. On the defensive side of the ball he would often be assigned the opposition’s top player and showed that he can defend with the best of them.
Clive Adams went through thick and thin with the Bearcats as he finishes up his PACWEST career. He was a leader on and off the court for the younger players coming to CBC for their first season of collegiate basketball.
Lakeeb Hughes was an offensive threat for the Bearcats in his only year with the club. He is a talent baller and will be missed next season.
Matias Rodriguez gained outstanding experience this past year playing in some pressure cooker situations. He has grown as a basketball player and will be well-suited for whatever he does next.
Josiah Prang and Dylan Klassen have decided to move on and are looking for other opportunities to continue to play basketball.
Women’s Volleyball
This is the Bearcats team with the fewest holes to fill with just one graduating player. Milania McLean spent just one season at CBC and moves on to another opportunity.
Men’s Volleyball
Liam Sampson was simply outstanding this season as the Bearcats primary threat offensively. He leaves big sneakers to fill heading into the fall.
Luke Funk graduates after two seasons at CBC after developing into a solid setter. The Delta native will turn things over to a younger student athlete in the Bearcats system.
Isaac James was a solid outside hitter for the Bearcats over the past three seasons and will be missed during next year as his club continues to build towards the playoffs.
The PACWEST wish all the graduating Bearcats best of luck in the next chapter of their lives.
