A dynamic presence on the court and a key contributor to one of the most dominant eras in PACWEST basketball, Aaron Mitchell is to be inducted into the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Hall of Fame in the athlete category.
The CCAA Hall of Fame honours the remarkable achievements of individuals who have significantly contributed to Canadian collegiate athletics. The athlete category recognizes those whose outstanding performance, leadership, and sportsmanship at the collegiate level that have left a lasting impact on their sport, their institution, and the CCAA as a whole.
Mitchell began his collegiate career at Capilano College in 1995 before transferring to Langara College, where he spent three standout seasons. A gifted playmaker and reliable scorer, Mitchell helped elevate Langara to national prominence throughout his time with the Falcons.
In 1996-97, Mitchell was instrumental in Langara capturing the CCAA Bronze Medal. A year later, he earned CCAA All-Canadian honours and was a critical part of Langara’s 1997-98 CCAA National Championship team. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the CCAA Tournament All-Star Team.
“Aaron was the ultimate competitor and raised the level of everyone around him,” said Jake McCallum, Director, Student Life and Athletics. “He could score from anywhere on the court and did so at an elite, all-time level. He’s truly one of the best to ever play for Langara and compete in the CCAA.”
Returning to Langara for his final season in 1999-00, Mitchell capped his collegiate career with another CCAA All-Canadian nod.
Aaron Mitchell’s blend of leadership, skill, and competitiveness helped define an era of success for Langara men’s basketball and left a lasting impact on the PACWEST and CCAA landscape.
