The Chargers and Royals will play in arguably the toughest match of the season, the PACWEST women’s bronze medal contest.
Both teams are coming off a loss in their semifinal on Friday and will conclude their season this afternoon. The Chargers were swept by the VIU Mariners, while the Royals suffered the same fate at the hands of the Capilano Blues.
The Chargers made things close in their match as Erica Bolink led the way with 10 kills while Ellie Carr chipped in with three and Jillian Roest came off the bench to add a pair. For Bolink, this will be the All-Star’s final PACWEST match.
Later in the day the Royals tried to hang with the top team in the country and kept two of the sets close. Lauren Bowman played well with five kills to match her jersey number and Kara Chan collected six in the setback.
These two schools met four times during the regular season, including just two weeks ago at Douglas when they split the weekend. Overall, they split their four meetings with three of them ending in a fifth and decisive fifth set. Today’s bronze medal match could see that trend continue as both teams will leave it all on the floor in their final match of the year.
The Chargers last won the bronze in 2024, the Royals the year before in 2023.
