It’s one of the hardest games in sports to get motivated for as the Blues and Coyotes play for the PACWEST bronze medal on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday the Blues fell short of repeating as Conference champs falling 90-80 to the VIU Mariners in their semifinal. They shot 45% from the field led by Kash Lang’s 13 points. They needed to use several of their players off the bench after committing 23 fouls.
This will be a quick turnaround for the Coyotes after losing their semifinal 74-53 to the Camosun Chargers last night. They shot 36% but only 1-25 from the three-point line and were led by Phil Holmes Jr and his 16 points and 14 rebounds.
During the regular season they met four times with the Blues winning three of them by an average of 20 points. The lone Coyotes victory in the seasonal series was by 14 points in November.
The last time these two schools met in the postseason was in 2023 when the Blues hammered the Coyotes 113-85 in a quarterfinal. The last Coyotes playoff win over the Blues came in 2020.
The Blues last won bronze in 2024 and the Coyotes have never won a PACWEST medal.
