The Camosun Chargers advance to the gold medal game with a convincing semifinal win
Camosun Chargers 74
Okanagan Coyotes 53
Friday night the Chargers showed why they are the #1 seed in the Conference with a convincing semifinal victory over the fifth seeded Coyotes.
The Chargers were balanced on both sides of the floor. Offensively they shot 40% and knocked down nine-three pointers as Cormick Brown led the way with 18 points on the strength of four-threes. David Finch was the Player of the Game with 17 points and 16 rebounds while also picking up an assist. Guard Thomas Beames chipped in with 16 points as the Chargers offence featured eight different scorers.
Over on the defensive side they would swarm to the ball regardless of which Coyote had it and didn’t allow many easy offensive looks. They created 16 turnovers and had 11 steals, holding the Coyotes to 1-25 from the three-point line. The one Coyote that did have success was Phil Holmes Jr who finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds as they tried to run the offence through him down low. The Chargers made adjustments and ran through several defensive looks to confuse the opposition.
With the win the Chargers will meet the VIU Mariners for PACWEST gold on Saturday night at 8:00pm knowing both teams will advance to the CCAA national championship which will be hosted at VIU. The loss will send the Coyotes to the bronze medal game on Saturday at 3:00pm looking for their first PACWEST medal when they face the Capilano Blues.
