Bearcats Record Convincing Win
The CBC advance with a quarterfinal victory
CBC Bearcats 68
Langara Falcons 46
The defending CCAA national champion CBC Bearcats advance to the women’s semifinal with a defensively minded win over the Langara Falcons.
The Bearcats defence was suffocating not allowing the Falcons any rhythm offensively. The game saw a major momentum shift heading into the second quarter when the Bearcats outscored the Falcons 29-13 and cruised to the quarterfinal victory. They held the Falcons to 20.6% shooting and didn’t allow any easy baskets, particularly under the hoop with their swarming defence and forced 18 turnovers.
On the offensive side Kagari Tomita was named the Player of the Game finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Rookie Kendal Dueck came off the bench and was spectacular with 17 points and knocked down all three of her three-point attempts. As a team they shot 38% from the field and completely turned the game around in that second quarter.
With the win the Bearcats advance to the semis and will meet the #1 VIU Mariners in a rematch of last year’s gold medal game. Tip off on Friday is set for 12:30pm.
