CBC Bearcats 71
The defending champion Capilano Blues survived a spirited CBC Bearcats team to win their quarterfinal on Thursday afternoon and advance to the semifinal.
The first quarter belonged to the sixth seeded Bearcats and came out strong with hot shooting from the field and behind the three-point line. Daylen Webb and Lakeeb Hughes set the tone giving their team a six-point lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Blues started to chip away and heat up pulling to within four at the half. Alfonso Reyes provided a spark off the bench in the second frame and kept that momentum throughout the game, finishing with a game high 27 points and grabbing 14 rebounds and was named the Player of the Game.
Offensively the Blues shot 43% from the field behind Reyes. Zach Klim was also outstanding with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Kash Lang collected 19. In all, the Blues had balanced scoring with nine different players hitting the scoresheet.
Webb led the Bearcats with 24 points and Hughes added 11 points and 11 boards.
With the win the Blues will play the #2 VIU Mariners in a semifinal and rematch of last year’s gold medal game at 3:00pm on Friday.
