Sammy Shields – VIU Mariners

Sammy Shields was dynamite in VIU’s opening weekend of the second semester, powering the Mariners to a weekend sweep of a CBC Bearcats team that is also in the running for top spot in the Conference. Sheild scored 16 points in each game and finished as the game-high point getter both times. She shot 63% from the floor and 67% from beyond the arc. Fifteen of her points were scored in first quarters as she helped the Mariners race out to early leads. She was also credited with nine assists in Saturday’s contest, a game where all her teammates hit the scoresheet. Her composure and experience stood out as the Mariners pocketed two vital wins against a tough opponent.
