Men's Week 12 Volleyball
Three very interesting matchups in Week 12 with the season winding down
Week 12 of the men’s PACWEST volleyball schedule is extremely intriguing with three matchups on the slate.
VIU Mariners @ COTR Avalanche – Friday February 6, 7:00pm | WATCH HERE
The top two teams in the PACWEST will duke it out this weekend in Cranbrook as the Avalanche and Mariners go head-to-head.
The Avalanche (14-2) come into the weekend having already clinched the #1 seed heading into the PACWEST championship tournament. They won five of their six matches in the month of January and are looking to ride that momentum this month as they play at home for the final time this year. In their first meeting with the Mariners back in October, the Avalanche swept the weekend doubleheader winning in three and four sets respectively.
Meanwhile the Mariners (9-7) pulled into sole possession of second place after last weekend and are playing their best volleyball of the season winning five of their six matches in January. Despite their winning ways the standings are still a log jam with four teams fighting for the final three spots. The Mariners are on the road for the final time this regular season and are looking to take down the top ranked Avalanche.
The rematch is set for Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.
Capilano Blues @ Camosun Chargers – Friday February 6, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
This weekend could determine a lot as the Blues and Chargers battle with just two points separating them in the standings.
The Blues (8-8) have the slight advantage but have stumbled as of late winning just once in their last four matches. They have really struggled on the road with a 1-7 record, however that lone victory came in their last road match. They should be well rested coming off their bye week and will look to change their fortunes at Camosun.
It’s the final home matches for Chargers (7-9) as they host the Blues trying to climb in the standings to solidify a postseason berth. They split their weekend with the Blues in November and are hoping the familiar surroundings of PISE will benefit them. They are coming off two straight losses last weekend and are currently tied with the Douglas Royals for the final playoff spot with four matches to go.
The rematch is set for Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm.
CBC Bearcats @ Douglas Royals – Friday February 6, 8:00pm | WATCH HERE
This is an interesting matchup as the Royals are trying to nail down a playoff spot and the Bearcats are looking to play spoiler.
The Royals (7-9) are currently tied for the final playoff berth and find themselves at home for their final four matches, which begins on Friday night. They have struggled since the calendar flipped to 2026, scoring just one victory in their six matches in January. They will meet a Bearcats squad that they know they can beat after sweeping them in Abbotsford in four and three sets respectively.
Speaking of those Bearcats (3-13), they will miss the PACWEST championship once again this season, which they are hosting in a couple of weeks. Like the Royals, they have only one win in 2026 and will be on the road for the rest of the year, at Douglas, then a trip to VIU. Both opponents are in the thick of a playoff hunt, so the Bearcats have an opportunity to play spoiler, a card their coaching staff may play in preparation for their final four matches.
On Saturday night the Royals and Bearcats will meet for the final time this season when they go head-to-head at 7:00pm.
