Falcons and Mariners Claim Saturday Victory
A rewind of the Saturday finals in men's soccer
Langara Falcons 2 – Douglas Royals 0
Keeper Ziyan Clark-Ismail made five saves on Saturday afternoon and watched his teammates score twice to earn the Falcons their fourth win of the season.
Taigo Shimada got the party started early for the Falcons with a gorgeous step over move to lose the Royals’ defender then blasted a left-footed shot past the diving keeper to open the scoring in the fifth minute. It was the lone goal of the first half and one that would stand up as the game winner.
In the 55th minute, the reigning PACWEST Athlete of the Week, David Rodriguez Zegarra was one-on-one with a Royals defender inside the box and was hauled down, resulting in a penalty kick. He wasted little time finding the back of the net for his second straight game with a converted PK.
The two-goal lead proved to be too much for the Royals and the Falcons captured victory.

VIU Mariners 2 – Capilano Blues 1
The hometown Mariners recorded their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon with a victory over the visiting Blues.
After scoring twice in 10 minutes last Saturday at Capilano, the Mariners kept that momentum early scoring the game’s first goal in the 14th minute. After a failed clearing attempt by the Blues, Adam Tsang lifted a beautiful ball right in front of the keeper for a jump ball that 6’4” Charlie Smith was able to head into the net for the hometown Mariners. It would turn out to be the lone goal of the first half.
The Blues got the equalizer in the 69th minute when the PACWEST leading scorer Sebastian Cirotto scored his fifth of the season. After an initial shot was saved, there was a mad scramble in the crease when Cirotto got to a loose ball and uncorked a turnaround shot that appeared to go off a Mariner, redirecting into the net.
The game stayed tied until the 79th minute. Blues keeper Graydon Sherie inadvertently knocked down Mariners forward Josh Rayner in the crease leading to a penalty kick. Smith was asked to take the shot and buried it in the right bottom corner just out of the reach of a diving Sherie for his second of the game, and the winning goal.
Sunday afternoon the Mariners (1-3-1) and Blues (2-2-1) will meet again at 3:00pm. WATCH HERE
