Last year the Capilano Blues were the top ranked women’s basketball team for the majority of the season and their guard play had plenty to do with it.
Point guard Ashley De La Cruz Yip set the pace for the Blues getting out in front of the opposition more often than not with the fast break. She was the general on the floor and had plenty of great offensive options to distribute the ball to. She compiled 99 assists throughout the season or 5.5 a game.
From the field she shot 36.7% and averaged 5.6 points a game.
De La Cruz Yip was named a PACWEST All-Star last season due her ability to run the Blues offence, dish the basketball and play outstanding defence averaging 2.2 steals a game.
In the classroom she just finished her fourth year in the psychology program.
She is highlighted in the PACWEST's “Best In Class,” a feature focused on the student athletes across the Conference that are leaving their mark on athletics and academics.
