FRIDAY

Camosun Chargers 3 – 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20
VIU Mariners 1

After dropping the first set the Chargers roared back to win the Island Rivalry match. Offensively Eduardo Bida caught fire and finished with a match-high 21 kills while the reigning PACWEST Athlete of the Week Vitor Periera had 11. Setter Mack Mravnik ran a very balanced attack with 38 assists.

The Mariners offence wasn’t as balanced as the Chargers was, with just one player hitting the double-digit kill total as Braydon Brouwer finished with 14.
Capilano Blues 3 – 25-22, 27-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10
Douglas Royals 2

After winning the first two sets the Blues were able to just hang on for a five-set victory at Douglas. Their offence was led by Jacob Hopkins and his 12 kills and setter Simon Friesen had 34 assists.

Conversely the Royals offence was led by two players. Reid Marriott had a match high 21 kills and Max Haronga earned 13 kills and 10 digs. Jared Collin finished with 42 assists.

UFV Cascades 3 – 19-25, 25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 15-10
CBC Bearcats 2

The Cascades get their first victory of the season in five thrilling sets over the Bearcats in the battle of Abbotsford.

Ben Friesen had a monster match with 16 kills and 15 digs. Graeme Hughes had 13 kills and setter Bobby Blaskovits tallied 37 assists.

The Bearcats offence was led by the dynamic duo of Jackson Kathler and Jacob Molitwenik who combined for 30 kills. Graham Walkey collected 35 assists.

SATURDAY

Camosun Chargers 3 – 14-25, 29-27, 25-19, 25-20
VIU Mariners 1

The Chargers swept the weekend home and home despite dropping the first set on Saturday night.

On the offence Vitor Periera held the hot hand with 21 kills and setter Kyle Bourdon collected 33 assists.

The Mariners on the other hand used a pair of players in their attack. Braydon Brouwer collected 17 kills and Adam Kapteyn had 11.

CBC Bearcats 3 – 25-22, 25-17, 25-19
UFV Cascades 0

After losing in a fifth set heartbreaker on Friday, the Bearcats took care of business quickly on Saturday. Their offence was balanced as both Jackson Kathler and Jacob Molitwenik each had eight kills

Meanwhile the Cascades offence struggled to find their groove without their big guns because of injury. Graeme Hughes totalled six kills and Ian Jagersma had five in the loss.
