Quest Kermodes (69) at Douglas Royals (58)
The Kermodes started the week off early with a big win as they still had hopes of gaining third place ahead of the Royals. Quest had 10 players with at least two points, led by Courtney Harpur with 13 points. Delainee Behrns and Shayna Cameron each added 10 points. The Kermodes were 6/14 from behind the arc. Despite building an 18-12 first quarter lead, Quest scored just 7 poins in the second and trailed 30-25 at halftime. A big third quarter saw them outscore Douglas 26-16 and regain the lead before going on to win. For the Royals, Amonda Francis had 24 points and 7 rebounds, while Patti Olsen had 13 points. The Royals outrebounded Quest 54-47, but shot just 4/22 from long range.
Friday February 15th
CBC Bearcats (32) at VIU Mariners (104)
The Mariners have been the hottest team since the Christmas break and continued their ways as they soundly defeated the Bearcats. Seven Mariners scored in double figures as the players rotated frequently. Jocelyn Jones, the Athlete of the Week, finished with 25 points in 21 minutes of play. Heather McCarthy and Shayna Worthington each added 16 points, while Jenna Carver had 14 points and 14 rebounds off the bench. The Mariners were 8/21 from behind the arc and 12/20 from the line. For CBC, Deanna Esau had 5 points and 10 rebounds, while Michelle Shuurman came off the bench for 7 pionts. The Mariners outrebounded CBC 59-38. They lead 57-19 at halftime, and 87-27 after three quarters. The win moved VIU, combined with Douglas’ loss, into sole possession of second place.
Capilano Blues (61) at Langara Falcons (70)
With nothing much to play for, the Falcons caught the Blues napping as they fought for their playoff lives. Needing a win, the Falcons came out hard and built a 19-16 first quarter advantage into a 37-27 halftime lead. Langara’s bench played a key role as they contributed 18 points, led by Jo-jo Crossley with 13 points. Jesseca Eng had 15 points, while Rhea Silvestri had 14 points and 12 rebounds in 38 minutes of play. The Falcons hit 8/26 from behind the arc. For the Blues, Jenn Bodnar had 15 points and Lauren Seabrook had 13 points. The Falcons outrebounded Capilano 44-25. Langara turned the ball over 22 times resulting in 18 Capilano points.
Kwantlen Eagles (61) at Camosun Chargers (47)
The Eagles forced Camosun to wait until the final day of the season to clinch their playoff spot by defeating them in Victoria. In a close game, the Eagles slowly pulled away and led 27-22 at halftime. Sara Kurath had 14 points, and guard Jessica Villadiego had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Jeannine Yngreso came off the bench to score 11 points. The Eagles would have won more comfortably but went just 14/32 from the free throw line. For Camosun, Elyse Matthews had 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Ella Goldschmid added 12 points. The Eagles outrebounded the Chargers 49-46. Kwantlen’s bench outscored the Camosun bench 24-7.
Saturday February 16th
Kwantlen Eagles (38) at VIU Mariners (72)
The Mariners finished the season off in convincing fashion with a lopsided win at home to the Eagles. Leading the way for the Mariners was Shayna Worthington with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Jocelyn Jones added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Jen McCarthy added 13 points. VIU led 19-13 after the first quarter, but used a big second quarter to lead 36-17 at halftime. They finished the game winning the fourth 20-9. The Mariners dominated the glass, outrebounding the Eagles 61-39. VIU shot 10/24 from behind the arc. For Kwantlen, Amber-Lee Kavanagh had 9 points, while Samantha McPhail hauled down 13 rebounds. The Eagles finish the season at 10-11 and in fifth place. The Mariners overtake Douglas and finish second at 15-6 and earn a first-round bye in the playoffs.
CBC Bearcats (47) at Camosun Chargers (99)
A Chargers win would guarantee them a playoff spot, and they took care of business in convincing fashion. Elyse Matthews scored 20 points and 7 rebounds, while guard Ella Goldschmid added 19 points. All the Chargers got in on the scoring with at least two points each as their bench contributed 43 points. The Chargers went 9/24 from long range, and 10/16 from the free throw line. They outrebounded the Bearcats 53-47, and forced 29 CBC turnovers. For the Bearcats, Janelle Threlfall finished with 20 points and 5 rebounds, and Sharece Thoutenhoofd added 10 points. The Chargers finished 8-13 and forced Langara to win to make the playoffs later in the evening. The Bearcats finish the season 0-21.
Quest Kermodes (66) at Langara Falcons (56)
The Kermodes ended the Falcons playoff hopes with a win in Vancouver. Langara started strongly and led 23-18 after the first, but Quest dominated the second quarter 19-5 and led 37-27 at halftime. Despite some runs and a 16-12 advantage, Langara never got close enough to regain the lead. Quest won the final frame 17-12. Shayna Cameron led the way with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Courtney Harpur added 10 points. Katrin Sandbichler had 8 pionts and 8 rebounds. Quest finished 23/30 from the free throw line, while the Falcons went 11/15. Rhea Silvestri finished a strong season with 12 points, and Jo-jo Crossley added 11 points off the bench. The Falcons committed 30 turnovers leading to 18 Quest points. The Kermodes finish at 13-8 and will play Kwantlen in the first round of the playoffs. Langara finishes 8-13.
Capilano Blues (43) at Douglas Royals (54)
Capilano finishes at the top of the PACWEST, but go into the playoffs having lost two straight after a loss at Douglas. Amonda Francis’ 19 points and 12 rebounds paced the Royals, while Patti Olsen added 15 points. The teams were evenly matched in several categories, but the Royals were 6/19 from three-point range while the Blues were 2/15. Douglas led 15-9 after one, and 26-21 at halftime. For the Blues, Alynn McNeilly had 13 points and 8 rebounds, and Lauren Seabrook added 9 points and 8 rebounds. Capilano finishes 16-5, and the Royals finish in third place at 14-7.
Friday February 8th
Camosun Chargers (48) at Capilano Blues (60)
The Blues won comfortably, but not before making it difficult for themselves as they trailed 26-11 after the first quarter. But Capilano held the Chargers to just 6 points in the second quarter – and the fourth quarter – and stormed back for the win. The Chargers’ offence dried up in the second half as they shot just 5/21 in scoring 16 points. The Blues were led by Jenn Bodnar with 15 points and Lauren Seabrook with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Elyse Matthews had 20 points and 13 rebounds for Camosun. The Blues outrebounded the Chargers 39-32 and forced 29 Camosun turnovers. The Blues improve to 16-2 and wrap up first place in the PACWEST. The Chargers drop to 7-11 and are just two points ahead of Langara.
VIU Mariners (61) at Quest Kermodes (45)
The Mariners seem to be warming up at the right time of the year as they won in the difficult Kermode Kave. Jocelyn Jones paced VIU with 20 points after she went 15/16 from the free throw line. Shayna Worthington added 8 points and 11 rebounds. The Mariners finished shooting 17/51 from the field and 21/26 from the line. The Kermodes were led by Katrin Sandbichler with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Quest shot just 2/19 from behind the arc, and 9/18 from the free throw line. VIU led 29-23 at halftime, and 42-32 after three quarters. The Mariners valuable win on the road keeps them on par with Douglas for a shot at second place at 12-6. The Kermodes drop to 10-8.
Langara Falcons (68) at Kwantlen Eagles (62) OT
Langara had to win tonight, and they did, taking the Eagles in overtime. Langara led 18-11 after one quarter and 33-26 at halftime. After the teams each scored 18 points in the third, the Eagles came back to tie the game in the fourth, forcing the extra period. Langara’s Rhea Silvestri finished 8/17 for 22 points and 15 rebounds. Jesseca Eng added 13 rebounds, while Denise Busayong added 10 points for the Falcons. The Eagles’ Haeley Williams had 19 points and 9 rebounds, and Amber-Lee Kavanagh had 12 points and 13 rebounds. Langara outrebounded Kwantlen 51-45. The big win revives Langara’s playoff hopes as they improve to 6-12. The Eagles drop to 9-9 on the year.
Douglas Royals (65) at CBC Bearcats (38)
Douglas led 13-5 after the first quarter and were in control of the game as they defeated the Bearcats. Amonda Francis had 18 points and 18 rebounds in a big game, and Taylore Carle added 15 points and 7 rebounds for Douglas. The Royals pulled down 75 rebounds and finished 25/85 from the field. The Bearcats had 57 rebounds and shot 16/78. For CBC, Mandy Van Muyen came off the bench to score 11 points, while Deanna Esau had 10 points and 14 rebounds. Douglas shot 8/24 from three-point range, while the Bearcats shot 2/11. The Royals improve to 12-6 and are in second place. The Bearcats fall to 0-18.
Saturday February 9th
VIU Mariners (59) at Capilano Blues (42)
The Mariners make another statement with the way they handled the first-place Blues on the road. After a 24-24 first half, the Mariners held Capilano to just 7 points in the third quarter and and built a 44-31 lead after three quarters. Jocelyn Jones went 8/15 for 23 points and 6 rebounds. Heather McCarthy added 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Shayna Worthington had 11 points and 8 rebounds. The Mariners outrebounded Capilano 49-40. The Blues were led by Lauren Seabrook, Michelle Errico, and Alynn McNeill each with 10 points. The Blues were cold from long range, finishing 4/31. The Mariners were 20/33 from the line, while Capilano went 16/21. The Mariners are 13-6, tied with Douglas, and in third place. The Blues have wrapped up a first-round bye and are 16-3.
Camosun Chargers (62) at Quest Kermodes (67)
The Kermodes came back from possibly the biggest deficit of the season – by any team – to win at home and keep some breathing room in their fourth place position. Delainne Behrns, the senior playing in her final home game, hit a three pointer at the end of regulation time to force overtime. Quest trailed 14-10 after one quarter, 31-20 at halftime, and 53-32 after three quarters. They outscored the Chargers 28-7 in the final quarter, before winning the extra period 7-2. For the Chargers, it was the second lead they’d seen slip away in two nights. Quest was led by Behrns with 18 points, and Soraya Jung with 10 points and 6 rebounds. The Chargers were led by Melissa Van Dyk with 16 points, while Ella Goldschmid added 14 points. Elyse Matthews had 9 points and 11 rebounds. Quest turned 35 Camosun turnovers into 21 points. The Kermodes solidify their hold on fourth place and are now 11-8. The Chargers drop their second of the weekend and are 7-12, in sixth place based on the tiebreaker formula. The Chargers face Kwantlen and CBC, in Victoria, to wrap up the season.
Douglas Royals (54) at Kwantlen Eagles (45)
Douglas defeated the Eagles to keep pace with the Mariners. The Royals led 29-23 at halftime and held Kwantlen to just 6 points in the third quarter. Amonda Francis had 18 points and 8 rebounds for Douglas, and Patti Olsen added 11 points. The Eagles outrebounded Douglas 41-32. The Eagles were led by Samantha McPhail with 15 points and 7 rebounds. The Eagles were 2/12 from long range, while the Royals were 8/20. Douglas turned the ball over just 9 times in the game. The Royals keep hold of second place with the win and are now 13-6, tied with VIU. The Eagles drop to 9-10, but look like they will finish in fifth place no matter what.
Langara Falcons (67) at CBC Bearcats (51)
Langara continued to keep their playoff hopes alive with a big win in Surrey. The Falcons couldn’t have asked for a better weekend, going 2-0 while Camosun and Kwantlen went a combined 0-4. The Falcons led 17-9 after the first quarter and never let up, despite being outscored 17-10 in the final quarter. Denise Busayong had 22 points and 7 rebounds to lead the Falcons. Rhea Silvestri added 9 points and 14 rebounds, while Jen Carpio came off the bench to score 11 points. Langara shot 24/79 while Kwantlen finished 19/49. Langara scored 25 points off 35 CBC turnovers. The Bearcats got a huge game from Janelle Threlfall who had 24 points and 12 rebounds. Deanna Esau added 14 points and 8 rebounds for CBC. Langara’s bench outscored the CBC bench 23-2. The Falcons improve to 7-12 and still need help to make the playoffs: they face difficult games at home to Capilano and Quest next weekend. The Bearcats fall to 0-19.
Friday February 1st
Quest Kermodes (87) at CBC Bearcats (55)
The Kermodes dominated in a win at CBC, using some second half defence to pull away. Quest led 46-35 at halftime, but held CBC to just 20 second half points. Delainee Behrns had 25 points after shooting 7/11 from three-point range. Andrea Eidsvik added 12 points and 8 rebounds off the bench. CBC as led by Janelle Threlfall with 17 points, while Deanna Esau added 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Kermodes outrebounded CBC 50-40, and the Quest bench outscored the CBC bench 41-11. The Kermodes improve to 10-6 and could finish anywhere between second and fourth place still. The Bearcats drop to 0-16.
Camosun Chargers (43) at Langara Falcons (57)
The Falcons needed a win at home to stay close to the Chargers in the race for sixth place. Trailing 26-22 at halftime, Denis Busayong carried Langara to a big second half that also saw them hold the Chargers to 7 third quarter points. Busayong finished 9/17 for 24 points. Rhea Silvestri added 10 points and 5 rebounds. Camosun outrebounded the Falcons 50-38 but couldn’t convert several second-chance opportunities. Elyse Matthews had 8 points and 12 rebounds for Camosun, and Melissa Van Dyk added 12 points. Langara committed just 12 turnovers. The Falcons big win at home puts them back in the playoff hunt at 5-11, now just two points behind Camosun at 6-10.
VIU Mariners (35) at Douglas Royals (40)
A big game for second place turned into a low scoring affair as both teams struggled to score, but the Royals’ defence proved stronger in a big home win. VIU led 9-6 after one quarter, but trailed 16-13 at halftime. The Royals’ Taylor Carle and Amonda Francis each had 8 points; Carle added 15 rebounds. For the Mariners, Jocelyn Jones had 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Mariners finished 9/19 from the line, while Douglas shot 9/22. The Mariners struggled behind the arc, finishing 4/30. The Royals improve to 11-5 and back into sole possession of second place. The Mariners are in third place at 10-6.
Capilano Blues (59) at Kwantlen Eagles (53)
Kwantlen proved to be a tough test for the league-leading and #9 ranked team in the country. Despite trailing 27-11 after one quarter, the Eagles chipped away at the lead but never got close enough to take it. Capilano led 40-28 at halftime. Michelle Errico had 13 points for the Blues, while Lauren Seabrook pulled down 12 rebounds. The Eagles outrebounded Capilano 48-43, and committed less turnovers than the Blues. But Kwantlen shot just 1/21 from three-point range, while the Blues finished 7/19. Kwantlen was led by Samantha McPhail with 14 points and 15 rebounds off the bench. Jeannine Yngreso added 10 points for the Eagles. The Blues stay atop the standings at 14-2. The Eagles are 8-8 and in fifth place.

VIU Mariners (67) at Langara Falcons (58)
The Mariners jumped out to a 24-13 first quarter lead, and led by as much as 12 at 30-18. The Falcons fought back, but the Mariners were always able to answer and went on to win a valuable away game. Jocelyn Jones and Shayna Worthington who combined for 42 points and 11 rebounds led the Mariners. VIU would have been more comfortable but shot just 16/28 from the free throw line. The Falcons went 8/20 from long distance and finished 21/56 overall. Rhea Silvestri had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Hailey Hebron added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Denise Busayong was held to 6 points for Langara. The Falcons had 26 turnovers resulting in 29 Mariner points. VIU moved to 11-6 but sit third place behind the Royals. Langara now falls to 5-12 and four points out of the playoffs.
Camosun Chargers (55) at Douglas Royals (43)
Camosun handed the Royals an upset when they rode the hot hands of Ella Goldschmid and Melissa Van Dyk to a win in New Westminster. Goldschmid hit 11/12 from the free throw line, while Van Dyk went 8/17. Each finished with 18 points for Camosun, and Julia Murray added 10 points. The Chargers led 18-9 after the first quarter, and held Douglas to 13 points or less in each quarter. Taylor Carle led Douglas with 13 points and 7 rebounds. The Royals shot 1/13 from long range, and finished 14/54. The Chargers went 22/32 from the free throw line. The Royals outrebounded the Chargers 46-26, but were unable to convert the points. Camosun’s starters accounted for all 55 Charger points. The win might have wrapped up a playoff spot with 4 games to go for the Chargers as their Island rivals did them a favour in knocking off Langara. Camosun is 7-10, while the Royals are second at 11-6.
Quest Kermodes (79) at Kwantlen Eagles (83)
Two teams that could easily face each other in the first round of the playoffs played a close game that the Eagles won by four. Christina Brown caught fire and finished 6/8 from long range and 7/9 overall for 20 points to lead Kwantlen. Haeley Williams came off the Eagle bench to add 16, while Samantha McPhail added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Kwantlen led 38-35 at halftime, and looked in control leading 70-57 in the final quarter. The Kermodes Katrin Sandbichler almost completed the comeback as she led Quest with 25 points and 18 rebounds, including 10/11 shooting from the free throw line. Delainee Behrns added 19 points for Quest. Quest outrebounded Kwantlen 42-35, while both teams’ benches contributed 22 points each. The win moves Kwantlen to 9-8, just two points behind Quest at 10-7 for fourth place.
Capilano Blues (74) at CBC Bearcats (60)
The Bearcats played one of their strongest games of the season, shooting 45% in the first half and trailing 36-26 at halftime to the PACWEST’s top team. Capilano won the second half 38-34 to maintain a lead and the win. Stacey Graham poured in seven three-pointers and 21 points to lead the Blues. Jenn Bodnar came off the bench to add 17 points, and Lauren Seabrook added 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Blues went 11/18 from behind the arc as a team, while CBC finished 2/7. The Bearcats outrebounded the Blues 46-40. Deanna Esau had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Janelle Threlfall added 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Bearcats turned the ball over 31 time resulting in 37 Bues points. Capilano goes to 15-2 and has wrapped up first place. The Bearcats drop to 0-17 on the year.

Langara Falcons (61) at Capilano Blues (74)
The Blues led comfortably and recovered from a late Langara run to win by 13. Capilano got 22 points from Athlete of the Week Michelle Errico who went 5/8 from long distance and was 3/3 at the free throw line. Alynn McNeilly added 18 points and 6 rebounds for Capilano, and Lauren Seabrook had 13 points and 18 rebounds in 24:11 of play. The Blues outrebounded Langara 49-34. The Falcons had three players in double-digits, including Denise Busayong with 12, and Jesseca Eng and Charlotte Lau each with 11 points. The Blues outrebounded Langara 49-34. The Falcons bench outscored the Capilano bench 18-9.
Douglas Royals (48) at Quest Kermodes (49)
The Kermodes won a big game to keep the standings very tight heading into the rest of the season. Quest trailed early, scoring just 8 points in the first quarter, and trailed 23-24 at halftime. Another low scoring third quarter saw Quest win 12-9, before they completed the close win. Shayna Cameron had 13 points, and Cassidy Osterling added 12 points off the bench. Katrin Sandbichler continued her strong return to the team with 16 rebounds. Either team could have won with improved free throw shooting: Quest went just 5/14 from the line, while the Royals were 11/25. Douglas’ Amonda Francis was held to 13 points and 19 rebounds. No other Royal scored more than 8 points as the Royals finished 17/57 from the field. The Quest bench outscored the Douglas bench 19-12.
Camosun Chargers (48) at Kwantlen Eagles (53)
The Eagles thrilled a home crowd with a big win, but they did it the hard way. Kwantlen had to come from behind for the win as they trailed 38-19 at halftime. They held the Chargers to just 5 points in each of the last quarters, forcing them to shoot 3/22 from the field and 4/6 from the free throw line. The Eagles outscored Camosun 34-10 in the second half. Kwantlen was led by Samantha McPhail with 14 points and 8 rebounds of the bench, and Amber-Lee Kavanagh added 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Eagles shot 16/25 from the free throw line, while Camosun finished 8/18. The Chargers were led by Ella Goldschmid with 12 points. Elyse Matthews added 9 points and 9 rebounds. The Mariners used a big second quarter, outscoring the Bearcats 32-12 to lead 53-30 at halftime. Capilano trailed by four at halftime, but their experience and timely defence, holding the Royals to 9 points in the final frame, gave them the win. The Blues hit 10/12 free throws in the second half. Jenn Bodnar and Lauren Seabrook led Capilano with 16 points each. Seabrook added 14 rebounds. Michelle Errico continued her strong weekend with 12 points and 7 rebounds, including three treys. The Royals’ Amonda Francis and Jordyn Carle had 13 points each. The Royals went 4/22 from long range, while the Blues shot 7/18. The Royals committed 18 turnovers, while the Blues had 22 turnovers. The Blues take care of business and improve to 13-2, six points clear of second place. The Royals consecutive losses drop them to 10-5, now tied with the surging Mariners for second place.

Quest jumped out to a big lead and never looked back, holding Langara to just 6 points in the third quarter and going on to win comfortably. The Kermodes were deadly at the line, burying 17/22 free throws in the second half and finishing 20/26 in the game. Quest was led by Katrin Sandbichler with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Delainee Behrns added 11 points, while Shayna Cameron had 12 points. Quest was 6/16 from behind the arc, and their bench outscored Langara’s bench 27-14. Denis Busayong had 14 points for the Falcons. Jennifer Carpio, Jessica Eng, and Rhea Silvestri each had 12 points for Langara. The Kermodes leap-frog Kwantlen and move into sole possession of fourth place at 9-6. The Mariners rode strong games from Jocelyn Jones and Shayna Worthington to come from behind and earn a valuable away victory. Worthington hit for 22 points, while Jones went 7/14 for 20 points. Heather McCarthy added 17 and 8 rebounds. Kwantlen got another strong game from their bench with 20 points to the Mariners’ 4 bench points. The Eagles were led by Jeannine Yngreso with 14 points off the bench. Amber-Lee Kavanagh had 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Christina Brown had 11 points. VIU scored 28 points off 26 Kwantlen turnovers. The Mariners led 29-27 at halftime, but exploded for 26 points in the third quarter to pull away. The Mariners improve to 10-5 and stay ahead of Quest. They’re also now tied with the Royals in second place, fighting for that first-round playoff bye. The Eagles drop to 8-7 and fifth place, but four points clear of Camosun.

Camosun rebounded from a difficult loss on Friday to dominate the Bearcats and earn a split of their road trip. Camosun jumped out to a 21-10 lead, and led 48-18 at halftime. The Chargers’ Ella Goldschmid was 10/22 including 5 three-pointers and finished with 25 points and 4 assists. Elyse Matthews had 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Miranda Cuthbertson had 10 points off the bench. The Chargers forced 31 CBC turnovers which they converted into 28 points. The Camosun bench scored 29 points. For CBC, Janelle Threlfall had 13 points, while Deanna Esau had 10 points and 8 rebounds. The Chargers shot 33/79, while the Bearcats finished 13/48. The Chargers win takes them to 6-9, comfortably in sixth place and four points ahead of Langara. The Bearcats drop to 0-15 on the year.

The Blues stayed on top in the PACWEST with a win over Camosun, holding the Chargers to just 16 first quarter points. Capilano led 26-16 at halftime and 42-33 after three quarters. After a disappointing loss in Nanaimo, Quest needed and got a win in Victoria to stay close to the Mariners. Delainee Behrns went 10/12 from the line for 16 points, adding 7 rebounds. Shayna Cameron contributed 12 points, and Katrin Sandbichler added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Quest outrebounded Camosun by a large margin, 62-36. The Kermodes were 7/18 from behind the arc. Leading Camosun in points was first-year wing/post Melissa Van Dyk (Claremont) who contributed 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Third-year post Haley Carmichael (Belmont) also made a great performance collecting 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. The Kermodes finished the weekend at 7-6, while the Chargers remain four points back at 5-8.

The Blues visited Nanaimo and, despite leading 15-8 after one quarter, struggled to score the rest of the game. The Mariners picked up momentum and won the second quarter 23-7, and the third quarter 30-9 to pull away convincingly. Shayna Worthington had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jocelyn Jones added 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists. The Mariners were 9/23 from long distance, while the Blues were 7/27. VIU outrebounded Capilano 55-38, adding up to 21 second-chance points for the Mariners. For the Blues, Michelle Errico had 11 points, while Alynn McNeilly had 10 points. Ella Goldschmid, the PACWEST Athlete of the Week, as well as Elyse Matthews and Melissa Van Dyk each had 15 points for Camosun. The Chargers outrebounded Langara 50-34 on the night, and scored 32 points off 22 Langara turnovers. For the Falcons, Denise Busayong and Jennifer Carpio each added 8 points. The Falcons finished shooting 15/55, including 3/15 from behind the arc.

The Royals came up with a big win on the road to keep their grip on second place, knocking off the Mariners in Nanaimo. The Mariners shooting put them in a hole early, trailing 20-5 after one quarter and 30-20 at halftime. Amonda Francis hit three treys for 18 points and added 8 rebounds, while Taylor Carle added 13 points for Douglas. Patti Olsen came off the bench to add three more three-pointers and 13 points. The Mariners topsy-turvy season took a turn for the better as they climbed above .500 at the expense of the Falcons. Despite leading by just five points after the first, VIU won the second quarter 21-8. They led 63-30 after three quarters. Jocelyn Jones went 7/11 for 23 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists to lead VIU. Jenna Carver came off the bench to add 13 points including 5/5 from the charity strip; Heather McCarthy also added 13 points. The Mariners shot an excellent 22/29 from the line. Charlotte Lau led the Falcons with 9 points and 5 rebounds. The Mariners hit 4/9 three-pointers compared to the Falcons shooting 7/30. VIU’s bench outscored Langara’s bench 30-13. The Mariners improved to 6-5; the Falcons drop to 3-8.
Douglas Royals (42) at Camosun Chargers (44)
In a battle of two teams hoping for a perfect weekend, it was the Chargers who came from behind to upset the Royals. Ella Goldschmid helped spur the Chargers to victory with 14 points and 8 rebounds in 40 minutes of play. Elyse Matthews also played the whole game and despite shooting just 2/14, added 9 points and 10 rebounds. The Royals led 25-18 at halftime, but the Chargers cut the lead to two after three quarters. In the final frame, Camosun held Douglas to just 6 points, and 7/33 from the field in the second half. Both teams struggled from the line: Camosun finished 10/18, while Douglas finished 9/19. Amonda Francis had 17 points for Douglas and Patti Olsen added 9 points and 7 rebounds. The Royals are now 8-3, while the Chargers improved to 5-6 and solidified their hopes of a playoff position. The big win moves the Chargers to 5-6, but just two points out of third place. The Royals remain in second a 8-3.

The Kwantlen Eages had a big win at home against the Kermodes as centre Samantha McPhail came off the bench for 17 points and nine rebounds. The Eagles trailed entering the final quarter, but outscored Quest 25-8 to win comfortably. Kwantlen went 17/23 from the line, compared to Quest's 8/10 free throw shooting. Also for Kwantlen, Sara Kurath added 16 points and six rebounds, while Jessica Villadiego added 15 points and five assists. KPU got 28 points from their bench, compared to the Kermodes' 18 points. Andrea Eidsvik, Courtney Harper, and Shayna Cameron all tallied 12 points for Quest in the loss. The Eagles and the Kermodes are both 6-5, along with the Mariners, while the Chargers sit a game back at 5-6.

The Capilano Blues opened with a 29-5 first quarter and lead throughout on their way to a win over the Bearcats. Michelle Errico, a local product of Argyle Secondary, poured in 26 points on her way to hitting 7/11 from behind the line. Francis Panafiel contributed 17 points off the bench, while Stacy Grahm also added 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Blues shot 10/25 from three-point range, and outrebounded CBC 46-44. All ten Blues were on the scoresheet with a minimum of three points. The Bearcats were constantly pressured on offence and shot 20/68. The Mariners started the year off with a win over Island neighbours Camosun. The game was close until the Mariners shut Camosun down in the final quarter, outscoring them 21-11 to earn the win. The Mariners used balanced scoring as five players scored 10+ points, led by Jocelyn Jones with 13 and Jamie Oliver with 12. Oliver added 8 rebounds. Shayna Worthington added 11 points and 8 rebounds as the Mariners outrebounded Camosun 41-35. The Chargers were led by Melissa Van Dyk with 11 points. The VIU bench outscored the Camosun bench 22-9. The Mariners improved to 5-4 on the season and keep pace with Quest in a race for third place. The Chargers dropped to 3-6.

After a loss to Capilano ended a six game win streak, the Royals returned to winning ways and avenged a loss to Langara in the first game of the season. Amonda Francis led with 13 points and 8 rebounds. The Royals shot just 12/27 from the free throw line. The Falcons were led by Denise Busayong with 10 points. Rhea Silvestri added 12 rebounds for Langara. The Falcons shot 5/27 from behind the arc, and 15/62 for the game. The last time these two teams met, the Blues pulled out a two-point win. In the rematch, it was equally exciting as the host Kermodes handed the Blues their first loss of the season. Quest fought back from a 10 point deficit and held the Blues to just 8 third quarter points. Quest was led by Shayna Cameron with 15 points, while Katrin Sandbichler gave the Kermodes a big boost off the bench with 13 rebounds. Cassidy Osterling added 11 points for Quest. The Blues were led by Stacey Graham with 21 points off the bench, including 4/8 three-pointers. Lauren Seabrook added 16 points and 9 rebounds for the Blues. Quest outrebounded Capilano 45-37. The Royals might be the surprise team of the PACWEST early in the season, and they continued with a win over Kwantlen in overtime. Amonda Francis had 32 points and 10 rebounds and was named PACWEST women’s basketball Athlete of the Week. Kwantlen led 21-15 after the first quarter, but Douglas won the last quarter 16-11 to force overtime. They outscored the Eagles 10-2 in the extra period. For the Eagles, Sam McPhail had 14 points and 17 rebounds. The Eagles shot just 9/23 from the free throw line; the Royals went 24/37. The Royals improved to 4-1 on the season and tied for 2nd place. The Eagles are 2-3, tied with the Mariners and the Falcons.
Langara Falcons (60) at CBC Bearcats (54)
The Falcons needed a win to keep pace in the standings, and they pulled out a win over the Bearcats thanks to a 16-1 first quarter. The Bearcats outscored the Falcons in each of the last three quarters, but couldn’t overcome the slow start. Rhea Silvestri had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Langara. Jess Eng added 12 points, while Hailey Hebron added 4 assists. The Falcons free throw shooting woes continued as they shot 14/29. The Bearcats outrebounded Langara 63-50. Janelle Threlfall had a huge game off the bench to lead all scorers with 26 points and 19 rebounds, and sits in the top 5 in both categories. The Bearcats committed 29 turnovers resulting in 19 Langara points. The Falcons are in a logjam in the standings at 2-3, and the Bearcats drop to 0-5.
