Third-year middle April van Wieren made her presence known over the weekend, leading her CBC Bearcats to a weekend sweep of the Camosun Chargers in Victoria. van Wieren, a native of Calgary, had 13 kills, three stuff blocks and an ace on Friday as the Bearcats opened the weekend with a 3-0 win over the hometown Chargers. She committed only two hitting errors for a sparkling 64.71% kill rating on 17 attempts. She followed that up with an equally dominant performance on Saturday with 11 kills, four stuff blocks and three service aces, two of which came on a 13-point serving run in the critical 3rd set with the teams tied at one set apiece. Once again she had only 2 hitting errors for the match. The two wins helped push the Bearcats past the Chargers into 4th place in the PacWest standings. "April has worked extremely hard to become a reliable and steady scorer for our team this season" commented CBC head coach Duncan Harrison after Saturdays match.
