CBC Bearcats (1) at UFV Cascades (3)
The Cascades defeated the Bearcats 3-1 to open the weekend (25-16, 25-17, 25-27, 25-23). The Cascades were led by Josh Togeretz with 5 digs and 16 kills and Kurtis Stromdahl with 11 digs and 13 kills. Nicolas Vojnovic added 14 digs, a personal season-high for the season. Jadon Ward led the Bearcats with 18 kills and 8 digs, and Sam Kemperman added 7 digs and 12 kills.
Friday February 15
Capilano Blues (1) at Douglas Royals (3)
The Royals, with first place already wrapped up, defeated the Blues in four sets, 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-16, 25-19). Jordan Or had 14 digs for the Royals, and Andrew McWilliam added 16 kills. Ben Ricketts had 17 digs for Capilano, while Alex Pappas added 21 digs. Dan Caverly added 8 digs and 11 kills for the Blues.
Camosun Chargers (3) at VIU Mariners (2)
The Chargers fought back from a set down to win a thrilling match against the Mariners 3-2 (15-25, 25-23, 25-19, 24-26, 15-13). The win gives the Chargers a shot at second place if they can defeat the Mariners again on Saturday. Garrett Marcellus had 15 kills for Camosun, and Alex Wolf added 11 kills and 8 digs. Andrew Inglis finished with 14 kills and 10 digs for the Chargers. For the Mariners, Lee Hamilton finished with a season-high 25 kills and six blocks. Diego Bustos added 7 digs and 13 kills, and Dillon Collett had 15 kills and 8 digs. Niall Cobbe also chipped in 14 digs on defence for VIU.
Saturday February 16
UFV Cascades (3) at CBC Bearcats (2)
The Cascades lost a 2-0 lead but ended up winning in a closely contested match 3-2 (25-15, 25-13, 19-25, 26-28, 15-12) that eliminated CBC from playoff contention. Josh Togeretz had another big match for UFV with 14 kills and 7 digs. Kurtis Stromdahl added 9 digs and 21 kills, and Nicolas Vojnovic topped his season-high 14 digs, set yesterday, with another 15 digs. Emmanuel Denguessi had a huge game for the Bearcats in the loss, with 20 digs and 45 kills. Jadon Ward added 14 kills and 5 digs, and Sam Kemperman had 8 digs and 11 kills for CBC. The Cascades finish 6-18, the same record as the Bearcats, but finish in the final playoff spot because of the tiebreaker.
Douglas Royals (2) at Capilano Blues (3)
The Blues triumphed in a back-and-forth match, eventually winning in five sets ( 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13). Dan Caverly had a huge game in the win with 19 digs and 17 kills. Kyle Sam finished with 17 digs, and the Blues’ Ben Ricketts had another 12 digs. Garret LaValley had 17 kills on offence, and Alex Harvalias added 13 digs and 12 kills. Drew Ruby led Douglas with 15 kills, and Nick Bridle had 6 kills and 3 blocks. Despite the win, the Blues finished in fourth place at 15-9 and take on COTR Avalanche in the playoffs next week. Douglas finishes in first place at 19-5 and will be the favourites heading into the PACWEST Volleyball Championship.
Camosun Chargers (0) at VIU Mariners (3)
The Mariners got their revenge and handled Camosun in straight sets, winning 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21). The Mariners’ Lee Hamilton had another 14 kills, and Dillon Collett had a strong all-round game with 8 digs and 9 kills. Zach Grigg added 8 digs and 17 kills for VIU. The Chargers’ Garrett Marcellus had 11 kills, while Andrew Inglis had 10 kills and 9 digs. Ryan Thain had 15 digs on defence for the Chargers. The Mariners win gives them second place and a first-round bye with a 16-8 record. Camosun finishes 15-9 and in third place.
