The Avalanche hosted the Mariners and jumped out to a 2-0 lead before winning in four close sets, 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 24-26, 25-23). Curtis Stockton had 16 kills for the Avalanche. Taylor Verboom had 7 kills and 8 blocks, while Kellan Ward had 11 digs for COTR. For the Mariners, Lee Hamilton had another big game with 7 digs and 20 kills. Andrew McWilliam had 7 kills, and Sam Shaw had another 8 points on offence. Jadon Ward led CBC with 11 kills, and Daniel Vaags had 8 kills and 11 points on offence. The Royals continue to lead the PACWEST, now at 17-1. The Bearcats drop to 2-14.
Capilano Blues (0) at UFV Cascades (3)
The Cascades bounced back from Friday’s loss to upset the Blues in four sets (25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19). Josh Togeretz had 17 kills and 8 digs to lead UFV, while Chris Schmitke had 12 kills for the Cascades. Connor Nickel also had a season-high 10 kills. The Cascades improved to 2-14, while the Blues fall to 11-7 and remain in second place. No Capilano stats were available.
VIU Mariners (3) at COTR Avalanche (0)
The Mariners shook off a long road trip and a loss on Friday to even the weekend, defeating the Avalanche in straight sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-22). VIU was led by Dillon Collett with 10 digs and 13 kills for 20 points on offence. Lee Hamilton with 4 digs and 11 kills, and Niall Cobbe had 11 digs for the Mariners. Curtis Stockton led the Avalanche again with 6 digs and 13 kills, and Trevor Zemlak had 9 kills and 2 blocks. The Mariners win puts them at 10-6 and just two points behind the Blues; the Avalanche drop to 7-9, alone in fifth place.
