Second-year wing Drake Downer had two outstanding games this past weekend and was a major factor in the Chargers’ first two wins of the season.
On Friday night the Chargers played host to the Kwantlen Eagles. Downer posted 20 points and 7 rebounds in an exciting 86-85 overtime win for the Chargers. Downer was the catalyst in some key stops down the stretch and a reliable source of big shots when the team needed them.
On Saturday night, the Bearcats came to town in the final game before the Christmas break. Downer had 15 points on 4 of 7 shooting and 6 rebounds in a Camosun 105-88 win over CBC. Downer hit the big shots again and took the right shots at the right time. Defensively he was a key part to the Chargers’ perimeter defense and one of the squad’s best rebounders.
