The final Men's Volleyball Athlete of the Week award winner is Douglas College Royal’s right side, Jeff Taylor. Taylor, a PACWEST first team all-star, was the Most Valuable Player at the recent Conference Championships held at Douglas College Feb.23-25. The Douglas gym was filled to capacity for both matches in the Royals’ road to Gold. In the competitions first semi final, Douglas took on the reigning National Champions and rival, CBC Bearcats 3-0. Taylor put the Royals on his back in the semi recording 19 kills on 25 attempts with only 2 errors. His attack efficiency of .680 in such a meaningful match was a highlight.
In the showdown for Gold vs the CCAA #2 and PACWEST #1 ranked VIU Mariners, Taylor was once again instrumental in the Royals success. The Royals right side put forth an MVP effort with 14 kills, 2 aces, and 3 stuff blocks leading the Royals squad to a 3-1 victory. Taylor concluded the competition with the game winning kill in a see-saw fourth set that finished 31-29.
