Bennett Hired as new Capilano MVB Coach

BennettThe Department of Athletics & Recreation at Capilano University is very pleased to announce that Nathan Bennett has accepted the Head Coaching position for the Blues Men’s Volleyball Program.

Capilano University is pleased to announce that Nathan Bennet has accepted the Head Coaching position for the Capilano University Men’s Volleyball program and the Volleyball Canada Center of Excellence program for the North Shore.

Nathan will be responsible for the men’s volleyball program at Capilano University and the Volleyball Academy to be held at Sutherland Secondary in North Vancouver.  Nathan Bennett, originally from Athabasca, Alberta, joins Capilano University as the Men’s Volleyball Head Coach after 11 years of playing professional volleyball throughout Europe.

Nathan played for the University of Alberta from 1996-2000; the team won the CIS national championship in 1997.  After his time at U of A, Nathan went on to play professionally in Europe for clubs in Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Cyprus, Slovenia, Finland and Switzerland.  Moreover, Nathan’s Canadian-British dual citizenship, combined with his experience on the court, earned him a spot on the British National Team from 2008-2011. Nathan’s preparations for the 2012 London Olympics took a turn due to an unfortunate knee injury in early April.

Since 2004, Nathan has spent his off-seasons working with Impact Volleyball Camp, a youth summer camp coached by pro-players. Promoted to Managing Director of the company in 2010, Nathan recruits players from around the world to coach at the camps held in B.C. and Alberta.

Nathan has had an outstanding playing career and is now ready to give back to the sport he loves by coaching and teaching younger players the things that he has learned throughout his playing career.  “He is looking forward to the challenge of coaching at the University level.” stated Athletic Director, Joe Iacobellis.  “He is passionate about the game and we are very pleased to give him the opportunity to expand our existing Men’s Volleyball program.”

“I am very excited about this upcoming season.” said Bennett.  Nathan is very excited to be joining the Capilano University Blues as Head Coach and is determined to use the extensive experience and resources to see the team succeed.

The Blues will be conducting a player ID camp in late May at the Capilano University Sportsplex in North Vancouver.  Any athlete who is interested in wearing a Blues uniform next year can email Paul Tudor at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
