Blues hires Ramin Sadaghiani as Women’s Basketball Head Coach

RaminThe Capilano University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Ramin Sadaghiani as the new Head Coach of the Blues Women`s Basketball program.

Long time North Shore native, Ramin Sadaghiani joins Capilano University with a solid coaching basketball background at the high school and elite basketball levels.  Being involved in CIS Women’s basketball for the past two years at UBC, Sadaghiani has accomplished much.   As an assistant coach for UBC, Ramin helped to lead the UBC Thunderbirds to Pacific Division Finals, Canada West Championship finals and CIS national finals. Ramin currently is the Executive Director and Head Coach of the 3D Basketball Academy in North Vancouver.

Capilano University Athletics Director, Joe Iacobellis said “Ramin was chosen from among a dozen applicants; a number that was whittled down to seven finalists who interviewed before a hiring committee last week. The committee, which included the Capilano University Blues  Athletic Director, Joe Iacobellis,  Milt Williams, the Sports Information Director, and the Blues Sport Development Officer, Ryan Lenarduzzi, all highly recommended Sadaghiani for approval to hire.

Joe Iacobellis stated that "Ramin had very well-thought-out answers during his interview and clearly expressed his plans of how to make this basketball program continue to evolve and eventually win a national CCAA championship for Capilano University.  Ramin has an exceptional network in the basketball community, both locally and provincially.  He knows the coaches, the players, the programs and has a real connection to the North Shore.  This will be a great benefit in recruiting for our team.".  Iacobellis also said of Sadaghiani "having been the assistant coach for one of the best CIS coaches in the country, (Deb Huband, UBC), that Ramin brings leadership, and a winning mentality to the program.  He is unyielding in his efforts to develop athletes and the sport of basketball through his involvement at the grass roots level and at the collegiate level. Ramin has a mature approach to the game and I think he will fit in very well with the direction and objective of the Blues program”.
