The Langara Falcons have owned the men’s side of the Badminton provincial medals in recent memory.
Their male athletes have won four straight singles titles including back to back from Matthew Chan, who will not be returning this year. Additionally in the 44 PACWEST seasons the Falcons have won this category 21 times. This four year winning streak is their longest run in the 44 seasons.
There are seven male Falcons athletes in this year’s provincials.
In the doubles category the Falcons men have also been outstanding winning back to back provincial gold coming into this year. Last season Eric Chiu and Imran Wadia won the title and the year before Hugh Leung and Shurman Chan took home the hardware. Overall the Falcons have won 19 double titles including a stretch of six straight from 1981-1986.
To add to their dominance, the Falcons have also won two of the last three mix provincial gold medals. Nathan Choi teamed with Ashley Jang in 2014 and back in 2013 Jang teamed with Matt Downton to win the provincial title.
The lone returning Falcon from a year ago is Eric Chiu who will make another run and lead his club onto the campus of KPU beginning on Friday.
It will be an entertaining tournament with seven men representing the host KPU Eagles and just four men playing for the VIU Mariners including one of the top ranked players Graydon Robb.
